The collaborative platform aims to develop advanced cloud solutions in line with the Italy Cloud Strategy and ACN directives, involving institutions, academia, and technology partners.

Rome – Polo Strategico Nazionale (PSN), Italy’s National Strategic Hub, has announced the official launch of its Innovation Hub, a strategic platform designed to accelerate the digital transformation of the Italian Public Administration. The initiative is part of the agreement between PSN and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers’ Department for Digital Transformation and operates in full compliance with the regulations set by the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN), marking a fundamental evolution in the offering of cloud services for the public sector.

The Innovation Hub is configured as a digital open innovation ecosystem, designed to foster structured collaboration between institutions, universities, research centers, technology partners, and startups. The primary objective is the co-design and development of high-value-added digital solutions, characterized by high standards of security and interoperability, which will enrich the catalog of services available to the Public Administration.

Operating Model and Strategic Drivers

The Hub’s work environment is based on a model that integrates diverse know-how, specialized skills, and emerging technologies. Proposed initiatives will be analyzed, developed, and transformed into operational projects, contributing in a measurable way to the evolution of digital services for citizens and businesses for the entire duration of the agreement.

Activities will be guided by four fundamental strategic drivers:

  1. Security and Sovereignty: Ensuring data protection and national technological sovereignty through solutions compliant with the most stringent cybersecurity standards.
  2. Growth and Development: Stimulating innovation and the competitiveness of the national economic system, fostering the development of an advanced domestic technology sector.
  3. Talent and Competence: Attracting and developing excellence, creating a hub of specialized skills to serve public digitalization.
  4. Effectiveness and Sustainability: Promoting efficient, scalable, and sustainable solutions from an economic and environmental perspective, optimizing public resources.

The Department for Digital Transformation, as the Grantor and promoter of PSN’s high-reliability infrastructure, is an integral part of this collaborative ecosystem.

A Consolidated Institutional Framework

The Hub’s launch is built on a solid foundation: to date, over 200 central administrations and healthcare entities have already completed the migration of their data and services to the Polo Strategico Nazionale infrastructure. This process was made possible by the public notices of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), managed by the Department for Digital Transformation.

“The creation of the Innovation Hub opens a new phase for our country’s digital infrastructure,” commented the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council with responsibility for technological innovation, Alessio Butti. “With the Innovation Hub, we are looking beyond European objectives and inaugurating a fundamental reference point for the evolution of the Italian technological ecosystem at the service of citizens and businesses.”

From Ideation to Implementation

The Innovation Hub is conceived as a dynamic laboratory where ideas are transformed into concrete solutions. Public administrations will assume a proactive role, no longer as mere beneficiaries of services, but as active partners in co-design. Through constant dialogue with PSN, its industrial shareholders (TIM, Leonardo, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, and Sogei), and technology partners, it will be possible to identify real operational needs and leverage experiences gained at the local level.

Emanuele Iannetti, CEO of Polo Strategico Nazionale, stated: “The birth of the Innovation Hub strengthens our shared commitment with the Department for Digital Transformation, aimed at achieving the goal of creating a place where ideas, discussed among industry experts in a dedicated laboratory, are transformed into concrete projects, and innovation translates into the creation of more effective and sustainable public services for the citizen. It is a step that reinforces our commitment to creating value, in terms of innovation, capable of valuing every contribution, including those from the youngest and most dynamic entities.”

In conclusion, the PSN Innovation Hub is positioned as a strategic asset for the country, aimed at building a digital infrastructure that is not only robust and scalable but also resilient and fully oriented towards the needs of citizens, in line with the objectives of the Italy Cloud Strategy.
