Functionality and fields of application about IoT

Internet of Things (IoT): a network of devices equipped with sensors and software that collect and exchange data, creating an integrated and intelligent ecosystem. This technology, combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI), transforms raw data into valuable information, enabling the automation and optimization of complex processes. IoT aims to collect data that AI processes to guide decisions and actions.

FUNCTIONALITY

The functioning of IoT can be broken down into four phases:

  • Data Acquisition: IoT devices, equipped with sensors, capture information from the surrounding environment.
  • Sharing: The collected data is transmitted through communication networks, such as 5G, which ensures speed and reliability.
  • Processing: Specialized software and artificial intelligence analyze the data to extract meaningful insights.
  • Action: Based on the results of the analysis, decisions are made or processes are automated, turning data into concrete actions.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

The impact of IoT extends to every aspect of our lives.

Within IoT is home automation, which allows for the remote control of lighting, security, and climate control. The cities of the future, Smart Cities, use sensors to manage traffic, prevent floods, and optimize urban services.

In the energy sector, smart grids (intelligent networks) combine IoT and AI to optimize consumption and integrate renewable energy sources, while in mobility, modern cars incorporate advanced driver assistance systems and 5G connectivity to improve safety and efficiency.

Finally, regarding the healthcare sector, telemedicine allows for the remote monitoring of patients and provides support for remote surgical procedures.

INDUSTRY (IIOT)

Industrial Internet Things (IIoT) is the application of IoT in the industrial sector, a fundamental pillar of Industry 4.0.

The IIoT enables machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and integration with ERP systems based on AI and machine learning. The analysis of data generated by IIoT devices allows for a significant improvement in efficiency, productivity, and operational visibility.
