From a university-born idea to a strategic partner for a giant like GE Aerospace. Avio Aero has acquired a 10% stake in MyPart Meccanica, the Italian tech company that is revolutionizing the production of critical aerospace components with additive and hybrid technologies. This move thrusts Italian excellence onto the global manufacturing stage.

The Deal: A Strategic Alliance

The news marks a turning point: Avio Aero, a leader in aerospace propulsion and part of the GE Aerospace giant, has invested in MyPart Meccanica. This is not a simple acquisition but a strategic alliance. MyPart, while benefiting from the industrial strength and network of Avio Aero, will maintain its operational independence, preserving the agility that is the hallmark of successful startups. The goal is clear: to accelerate growth and bring disruptive technologies to market in record time.

The Core Innovation: Reinventing the Turbine Blade

But what exactly does MyPart do that is so revolutionary? The startup, founded in 2017 by then-engineering student Massimo Russo, has developed an advanced manufacturing process based on additive manufacturing (3D printing). This technology allows for the creation of blades for aircraft engines and gas turbines with superior mechanical and thermal performance compared to traditional methods.

The result? Lighter, more durable components produced in a fraction of the time. As founder and CEO Russo himself emphasized, the advantage is tangible for clients:

“With our models, leading aerospace companies like GE Avio and Rolls-Royce are able to develop their products much faster and at a lower cost.”

This isn’t just process optimization; it’s a fundamental step toward ensuring Italy’s technological independence in a highly strategic sector.

From Campania to the World: A Technological Ascent

MyPart’s story is a testament to “Made in Italy” innovation. Founded in Avellino as a provider of rapid prototyping services, the company quickly established itself, earning the trust of global players. Its growth is evidenced not only by its client roster but also by a path filled with accolades:

  • Excellence in Incubation: In 2018, it joined the incubation program at the Politecnico di Torino, collaborating on the development of innovative materials for 3D printing in the aerospace field.
  • International Success: It won first place at the “Best StartUp Show Case” of the Italy-China Science, Technology & Innovation Week and triumphed at the BSSEC Italy-China event in Yancheng.
  • Award-Winning Innovation: In 2023, the Italy USA Foundation selected it from 15,000 startups to receive the prestigious “America Innovation Award.”

By the Numbers and a Vision for the Future

With two operational sites in Salerno and Turin, MyPart is no longer a promise but a solid reality. The company closed 2024 with a revenue of €506,000 and aims to double that figure in 2025.

With clients of the caliber of Rolls-Royce and Saipem, in addition to Avio Aero itself, Russo’s vision is clear: “We would now like to vertically integrate within the Aerospace sector by adding new processes and services to better support our main clients.”

The investment from Avio Aero is the fuel for this next phase of flight: combining the agility of a deep-tech startup with the firepower of an industrial leader to define the new standards of future propulsion.
